The number of deaths of an Indonesian school collapse increased to 37 on Sunday, authorities said, since rescuers recovered more victims buried under the rubble.

Part of the multi -story building on Java Island in Indonesia suddenly collapsed on Monday when the students gathered for the afternoon sentences.

“Until Sunday morning, the number of recovered victims was 141. 104 were in safe conditions, 37 were dead,” said Operations Director of the National Search and Rescue Agency Yudhi Bramantyo, in a statement.

He added that 26 people were still missing.

The death toll included a part of the body that rescuers recovered from the rubble on Saturday, said Yudhi.

The local search and rescue chief, Chief Nanang Sigit confirmed the number of the dead of 37 in a separate statement.

Researchers have been investigating the cause of collapse, but the initial signs pointed to the construction of lower quality, according to experts.

The rescue operation was complex because the vibrations in one place could affect other areas, authorities said.

But the families of the disappeared agreed on Thursday to use heavy equipment, after the “72 -hour period of 72 hours for the best survival opportunity came to an end.
