- The new legislation could prohibit thesee of government devices
- Deepseek represents a threat to the national security of the United States, experts say
- The US Navy and NASA have already banned application
The AI Deepseek application, which recently sent waves through the Global AI market by offering a more powerful model developed at a relatively lower cost than its competitors, should be prohibited in the United States government devices, according to the legislators
Two members of the Congress seek to introduce a bipartisan bill to prohibit the application of government devices, since it represents a national security threat to the United States.
The bill, presented by US representatives Josh Gottheimer (D-NJ) and Darin Lahood (R-IL), is entitled “There is no profound UNSEE in the Law of Government Devices.”
Protects the US market
The two representatives are members of the House of Representatives of the Intelligence Committee of the House of Representatives, and the bill was introduced after the Depseek application was qualified as a threat to the actions of the US. A recent feroot security investigation alleging that the application is feeding user information to companies under companies under the control of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP).
“Our personal information is being sent to China, there is no denial and the Depseek tool is collecting everything that US users connect with it,” said Feroot analyst Ivan Taryrynny to the WSJ.
Some prohibitions have already been introduced, with the state of Texas already prohibiting the application of government devices, and the US Navy and NASA that prohibit the application of their devices used. If the bill is approved, the United States would follow the steps of countries such as Australia, Italy and South Korea, which have already introduced similar legislation.
“We simply cannot risk the PCCH that infiltrates the devices of our government officials and endanger our national security,” said Gottheimer. Lahood echoed these feelings, stating: “This common and bipartisan legislation will prohibit the application of federal workers telephone numbers while closing the rear door operations that the company seeks to exploit for access.”
“It is essential that Congress safeguarders the data of Americans and continue to ensure US leadership in AI,” said the Hood.
