- It is rumored that Apple is working on an AI search tool
- The function is expected to be launched in 2026 and could be fed by Google
- The iPhone 17 is expected next week
It is said that Apple is working on a search engine that could be fed by Google, according to privileged information.
Mark Gurman, Bloomberg Apple expert, reports that Apple is “planning to launch its own artificial intelligence web search tool next year, intensifying competition with OpenAi and Perplexity AI Inc.”
This comes after previous reports that Apple was looking for potential opportunities to improve its AI offer, after the disappointing launch of Apple Intelligence almost 12 months ago.
Gurman has spoken with “people with knowledge about the matter” who claim that the project is called “world knowledge responses” and will be integrated into an improved version of Siri.
According to the report, some executives call the next software as a “response engine”, and Apple is “with the aim of releasing the service in spring.”
From Gurman’s article, it seems that World Knowledge Answers will work similar to the search for chatgpt or Google’s mode, which allows users to ask Siri for answers and listen while the voice assistant responds.
Interestingly, Gurman states that the technology that is said to boost this new feature could be fed by Google. He affirms: “Companies reached a formal agreement this week for Apple to evaluate and evaluate an AI model developed by Google to help boost the voice assistant.”
This would not be a surprise, especially taking into account the previous reports that Apple was interested in implementing Google’s Gemini Ai model in Apple Intelligence.
The intelligence we have been waiting for?
Gurman says that “the new search experience will include an interface that uses local text, videos, videos and points of interest, according to its sources. It will also offer an AI summary system designed to make the results more quickly digestible and more precise than what the current Siri offers.”
While this sounds incredibly promising, it is worth taking with a salt grain, especially taking into account Apple’s previous history with the launch of functions with AI. While Gurman is usually very precise with his reports, many things can change during the development of a product that is rumored that will launch almost 12 months from now on.
Apple is preparing for its biggest week of the year when it reveals the iPhone 17 on September 9, and although we do not expect to see much of Apple Intelligence in the event, perhaps the company based in Cupertino has a surprise of aligned.
Time will say if this Siri search engine is performed with fruiting, but taking into account the increase in the popularity of the generative tools of AI, I suspect it could be a massive success.
