- The Fantastic Four: First Steps The director has responded to criticism for its visual effects
- Matt Shakman gave an educated but abrupt response to fans who have reacted negatively
- Critics who have seen Marvel’s film are unanimous in their praise of their CGI
Matt Shakman has given a forceful response to anyone who has negatively reacted to The Fantastic Four: First Steps‘Visual effects (VFX).
In statements to Techradar, the director of the Marvel film gave an educated response, although direct from 10 words, to fans who have said they are less than impressed by some aspects of the film. Of particular note are its computer generated images (CGI) and special effects, which have been critical from the first trailer of First steps It was released in February.
On the one hand, reactions to the elastic superpowers of Reed Richards and the aesthetics of the Silver Surfer, which were presented in First steps‘Official trailer, mixed when these images fell in April. Then there are those who initially found failures in how the thing looks. Ah, and let’s not forget how many people rushed to how Giganto, one of the first villains that the fantastic four fought in the comics and that is expected to appear in First stepsHe looked in a * checks notes * Promotion of the tied announcement for the Little Caesar’s restaurants.
Before the launch of the Marvel movie Phase 6, I asked Shakman about his thoughts about these criticisms and if he and him and First steps‘Hundreds of VFX team felt heavy by him.
“I think the visual effects are beautiful in this film,” he replied frankly.
Now, some readers might think that Shakman is avoiding the question and/or giving a stock answer that puts the company’s line.
However, numerous people who have already seen one of the new most anticipated films of the year, including criticism, have positively reacted to the VFX in the final cut. The threads in the sub-Redits R/Marvelstudios and R/MarvelstudiosSpoilers are full of publications on the social networks of journalists that praise the CGI and other special effects, so it seems that the initial negativity to these elements of the film was exaggerated.
Okay, the reactions in the aforementioned Reddit threads are only a fraction of those who have seen the final film of Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) of 2025. However, the fact that there are people who advance First steps‘VFX is evidence that it is not as bad as some fans feared, and that I only needed some enamel and refinement before launch.
