He explained that Warner Bros. asked him to “remove” some of the sexually violent scenes from the film after test screenings.
Maggie stated, “There’s sexual violence. There’s violence. Because it’s a big studio movie, we tested it and tested it. We had big screenings in malls, where people came to see it, which is something I’d never been involved in before as an actress or director.”
He revealed that after the screenings, the first thing the studio mentioned was violence.
Gyllenhaal claimed that he asked many women their opinion on the brutal violence, and they all responded by saying that they did not want to see a woman being raped.
“A couple of women told me, ‘I don’t want to see a woman get raped.’ And I don’t think I want to see that either,” Maggie admitted while speaking to The New York Times.
the bride features Christian Bale as Frankenstein’s monster with Jessie Buckley playing the bride. Jake Gyllenhaal also plays a pivotal role in his sister’s film.
