Dustin May’s life was almost shortened last year.
While recovering from a second surgery of Tommy John during the summer, the Los Angeles Dodgers launcher was eating a salad. A lettuce leaf was stuck in his throat and broke its esophagus, requiring emergency surgery.
May didn’t want to go to the hospital, but wives know everything.

“If I had not gone to surgery that night, I would not have woken up, probably. It was definitely life or death. Everything is thanks to my wife,” Digital told Pak Gazette in a recent interview. “I was trying to convince her that she didn’t need to go, and she said it’s not an option.”
May was called in 2019, and his arm has always been one of the most unpleasant of the main leagues. However, since 2021, he has made only 25 openings due to two surgeries by Tommy John and his lettuce accident.
When it is in the field, it has been great. Its era in that period is 3.24. He has also carried out the five openings this year, launching an effectiveness of approximately 4.00.

“I feel great. It is a blessing to get the uniform and return to the field now. If the results are good or bad, I will be in a good mood going home, just because the game was removed for so long and to be able to jump again and not omit a rhythm has been great,” May said.
Arm lesions occur, especially for pitchers. But the rest of his season, and almost his life, being interrupted due to eating a salad? That was a pill difficult to swallow for May, who admitted that he couldn’t help thinking: “Can anything follow my path?”
“It has definitely gone through my head,” he said.
With the help of his wife, he has also used the power of prayer.

“There has been a lot of prayer and speaking with my wife and many conversations sitting trying to wrapping this and trying to put our best foot to not put the face of ‘why me’. There have been many positive conversations, many statements with me and she. That has been our most important thing.”
May has always supported his faith, “but my spiritual journey has definitely grown up as the last nine months since my surgery.”
“He definitely approached a lot, because they almost took me, so I definitely wanted to have the opportunity to thank him to be here and continue living my dream and use the skills and gifts with which he blessed me.”
“Then, thanks to [my wife] and the good lord up. “
Now that he has returned, May is trying to be as free as possible. That was not the case when he returned from his first Tommy John surgery because he was a main prospect.
“I feel that, previously in my career, definitely after my first [Tommy John surgery] When I returned, I definitely felt that there was pressure on me to be the person who was before, “he said.” But, I mean, after all this, then, after my second [Tommy John] And after my esophagus surgery, there are now many bigger image items in my life, not only being my world so wrapped and focused on baseball. It is definitely a central point, absolutely. But if things go south or if things are going well, I will still try to keep a level head.

“I am happy and blessed to be able to put the uniform again and be there with my boys because that was something that had lost me and I felt that I had not been part of him in so long.
“I felt like a fan because I was far from that. Now I feel that I am contributing. It’s a colder feeling.”
