The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has removed three political parties from its list of registered entities for failing to conduct intra-party elections as required by law.

According to an official notification, Pakistan National Party (PNP), National Democratic Party (NDP) and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Nizam (PTN) have been delisted for not holding elections within the prescribed period.

The move comes as part of the ECP’s efforts to enforce the Political Parties Order 2002, which requires all political parties in Pakistan to conduct regular intra-party elections to ensure democratic practices and accountability.

In a contrasting development, the ECP has recognized Tehreek-e-Suba Hazara Pakistan (TSHP) as a registered political party, following the successful completion of its intra-party elections in November 2024.

Furthermore, last week, the ECP also recruited Awaam Pakistan (AP), after the party held its internal elections in June 2024.

Awaam Pakistan, formed by former Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi and former Finance Minister Miftah Ismail, will be led by Abbasi as President and Ismail as Secretary General. Both leaders had previously been associated with the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), but left the party following differences with its leaders.
