- 2025 is the first year in a decade without new Hero Black Action Cam
- GoPro launched the Max 2 360 camera and the enlightened entrance level hero in place
- Gopro says that Hero Black’s story is not over
The new goopros in September is one of the few certainties of technology, but 2025 simply treated a big surprise: it will be the first year in a decade without a new flagship of black hero.
Ready for the hero 14 Black present, instead we received news from the new Gopro Max 2 and Gopro Lit Hero. The first 360 camera is the long -awaited Max 2019, while the second is an update of the Hero 2024 of entry level.
We asked GoPro to comment on his plans of the Hero Black series, and his global communications and marketing of SVP, Rick Loughery, he told us:
“By 2025, Gopro will continue with Hero 13 Black as our main flagship chamber. The speed of our technological innovation has been incredible in recent years, and we believe that Hero 13 Black remains one of the most advanced and capable cameras of the market.
“We are focused on prioritizing the camera that our Gopro community is more anxious to add to its content tools kit, and this year is Max 2. And if 360 is not what you are looking for, Lit Hero also satisfies the need for a more traditional action camera in the alignment of this year.”
Gopro assured us that Hero Black’s story is not over. However, there could be trial times ahead for the King action chamber, with speculation that DJI will launch the OSMO Action 6 soon, with a 1 inch sensor GoPro-Beat, Video 8K and advanced integration of smart watches.
Is the legendary action cameras line slowing down?
Gopro established the Action CAM standards for years, delivering industry firstfruits in its Black Chamber of Hero’s flagship series. From Hero 5 Black of 2016, there has been a new model every year around September, which culminated in the Hero 13 Black last year.
There have been recent signs that the series is slowing down, with the latest models that bring iterative updates and use the same 4: 3 stabilized sensor for a soft 5.3K video. At the same time, fresh players have entered the scene: DJI and Insta360.
Currently, there is a tasty three -way battle for the best action chamber, between Gopro’s Hero 13 Black, the DJI Osmo Action 5 Pro and the Insta360 Ace Pro 2.
Each brand has its own opinion on the format, and in reality I am a great admirer of the last GoPro, among which for its interchangeable lenses, one of the best new features of Gopro in years. The Hero 13 Black is similar to Hero 12 Black, which was also a super modest successor of the excellent 11 Black.
To be clear, I don’t care that GoPro extends the cadence of his launches of the Action Cam series. I feel the same with the main smartphones of Apple, Samsung and Google: Do we really need a new model every year?
I prefer that GoPro takes your time to work in significant updates for a future model, presumably a 14 Black hero. It simply feels strange that there is no new model this year: a new hero Black is something we have used to seeing every fall.
What do you think about Gopro 2025 product releases and the absence of a new Black Black Ship of Hero Hero? Feel free to share your thoughts in the comments below.
