The ESPN MLB analyst Ben McDonald caught some criticism for his reaction to the promotion of the network of one of the first NHL games of the season among the Chicago Blackhawks and Florida Panthers.
McDonald was in the call to the National League Series between the Chicago puppies and the parents of San Diego when the promotion appeared.

“If you say it, good luck,” McDonald said when he was asked if he believed that the Panthers could do three fish this year. “Are you asking if I’m going to be looking? … There are zero possibilities of seeing. I’m going to be honest with you. I will be somewhere, but there are possibilities that I am seeing.”
John Buccigross, who is part of the NHL coverage of ESPN, was one of those who took a blow to McDonald.
“Zero is also how many postseason entries Ben McDonald launched in his MLB career,” he wrote in X.

McDonald explained on Thursday during an appearance in “Wake Up Barstool” by Fox Sports.
“As for hockey things, when that thing appears on the screen, I will be honest, I didn’t even know that ESPN had the hockey contract,” he said. “I know they probably paid for a dollar or two for it. I just didn’t even know that to be honest with you.
“Then, when I looked at the dates, that is while the playoff baseball. And if I have the option between the preseason or the beginning of the hockey season and the October baseball, I am probably tilting slightly towards the playoff baseball.”
