A mass explosion occurred in a fuel truck near the truck post in the Noshki district of Baluchistan on Monday, after a fire that exploded on the scene. The explosion caused serious injuries to more than 40 people, many of whom were severely burned, Express News said.
According to the reports, the incident took place when efforts were being made to control the fire, which had begun in an oil tanker in the truck post. Fire extinction vehicles and rescue equipment were sent to the scene, but while trying to extinguish the fire, a fire also broke out in a fire truck.
The rescue sources confirmed that several people were burned in the explosion and were immediately transferred to hospitals for medical care. Hospital officials declared that after receiving the initial treatment, people with critical injuries would be transferred by plane to Quetta to obtain more attention.
The district administration issued a statement confirming that more than 40 people had been injured in the explosion. The statement explained that the incident occurred while efforts were to control the fire that had surrounded the fuel tank of the petroleum parked in the stand.
The authorities also reported that the members of the Fire Brigade suffered severe burns, since they were close to the explosion.
In addition, four police officers who were present to evacuate civilians in the area were also severely burned. According to the reports, the people who were near the oil tanker suffered burns to 70 to 80 percent of their bodies.
The district administration also declared that people with critical injuries would be transferred by plane to Quetta through the helicopter for specialized medical treatment.
The authorities have initiated an investigation into the cause of the fire and the subsequent explosion.
