With the first phase of military operation in Kurram district over, the KP government decided to resume the process of demolishing illegal bunkers in the area and send four vehicle convoys to Kurram with essential supplies later this month.
Security forces have launched a house-to-house search operation in Bagan and have also started repair work on damaged mosques. The bullet-riddled body of a fifth driver, missing after the attack on the aid convoy, was found in the center of Kurram. The bodies of four drivers had already been recovered a day after the deadly attack.
The deputy commissioner of Kurram district said that the coordinated efforts of the civil administration, police, security institutions and local advisors have resulted in notable achievements during the first phase of the operation when a large cache of illegal weapons was recovered . He said efforts are being made to cleanse Kurram district of unscrupulous elements.
Meanwhile, a high-level meeting was held on Wednesday under the chairmanship of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Khan Gandapur to discuss the prevailing situation in the restive Kurram district.
The meeting was attended by Chief Secretary, Inspector General of Police (IGP), Additional Chief Secretary Home and other relevant officials. The group decided to resume the process of demolishing illegal bunkers in the area and send four convoys of vehicles to Kurram with essential supplies later this month.
He also decided to call a Jirga of the signatories of the Kurram peace agreement with the objective of highlighting and emphasizing the responsibilities of the signatories to implement the agreement.
