The health authorities in the city of northwest of Peshawar in the northwest of Pakistan have confirmed a second case of the MPOX virus this year.

The infection was detected in a five -month -old girl who arrives at Peshawar airport from Qatar, marking the last development in continuous monitoring of Pakistan’s disease.

Attaullah Khan, spokesman for the health advisor of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Ihtesham Ali, confirmed that the baby tested positive for Mpox after landing with his parents.

The Department of Health has initiated evidence for the virus in the child’s parents as a precautionary measure.

This new case follows MPOX detection in a 35 -year -old man at Peshawar airport last week. The man was quickly isolated at the Police Services Hospital to receive treatment.

Since the first case reported in August 2024, Pakistan has implemented detection protocols in airports and border entrance points.

The country reported at least eight MPOX cases in 2024. However, so far there have been no cases of recently mutated strain from Mpox, CLADO I, in Pakistan.

MPOX symptoms include diseases similar to flu and pus -filled injuries. Children, pregnant women and people with weakened immune systems are particularly vulnerable to virus complications.

The World Health Organization declared a global health emergency in August 2024 due to the spread of the new strain of the virus, which emerged in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and has caused greater global monitoring and preventive efforts.
