He was the brother of the former provincial information secretary of the Popular Party of MPA and Pakistan (PPP) Amjad Aphridi, and the son of Senator Shamim Afridi.
In a separate but politically tangled development on Thursday, five suspects have been arrested in relation to the murder of the former Kohat district, Nazim Malik Asad Khan, including Malik Amjad Afidi, the brother of the late ABBAS Aphridi.
At a press conference held at the Kohat Police Club, Dr. Zahidullah Khan, a district police officer (DPO), revealed that the murder plot was orchestrated in the residence of Malik Amjad Aphridi.
The suspects in custody include Afridi, his nephew Hussain Afridi and three others identified as Hashim aka Shaeno Gulzeb, Nemat Amir and Yasir.
According to the police, Nemat Amir was arrested in Islamabad, who provided key information during the interrogation, which led to the arrests of the remaining suspects.
The officials responsible for enforcing the law also reported the recovery of weapons of all the defendants.
The suspects are currently in police custody, Aphridi in a five -day preventive detention and the others for seven days, as investigations continue.
The authorities claim that Aphridi and his nephew house the attackers and facilitated their escape.
