The former senator who called Bitcoin ‘Choice for Criminals’ obtains 11 years in bribery



The demanding crypto of skeptical and dishonorous American senator Bob Menéndez was sentenced to 11 years in prison on Wednesday for charges of bribery and acting as an agent of Egypt, said Associated Press.

Menéndez was a New Jersey Democrat and famous for taking photos in Crypto. Once he called Bitcoin (BTC) an “ideal option for criminals” and also opposed the acceptance of El Salvador de BTC.

“You were successful, powerful, he stopped at the apex of our political system,” said District Judge Sidney H. Stein Menéndez, according to AP.

The president of El Salvador, Nayib Bukele, went to X and commented on the Menéndez sentence.

“This senator was the great opposition reference (front pages, reports, etc.) when he accused El Salvador of using Bitcoin to launder money and corruption,” Bikele said.

“The thief judges by his condition,” he added.

Menéndez took bribes in the form of gold and effective and used his political connections to act as an agent of Egypt, according to the report.

The former senator was convicted of bribery charges last year, as Coindesk reported.
