- The former Microsoft executive, Peter Moore, has said that if Xbox had not spent so much time and money repairing Xbox 360 consoles, “I’m not sure the Xbox brand would be today”
- Moore called it a “defining moment” for the company
- He also believes that if Xbox fell, the games industry would have suffered
The former protagonist of Microsoft, Peter Moore, believes that the Xbox brand may not be close to today if the company had not focused on repairing countless Xbox 360 consoles.
In an interview with the game business, Moore suggested that the company was in hot water trying to discover how to fix the “Red of Death” of Xbox 360, but determined that spending the $ 1.15 billion on repairs is what finally saved the future.
“It took us some time to discover what was happening,” said Moore (thanks, gamesradar). “Were fans in the right place? […] Trying to find out if, you know, […] Wrapping the towel around him would create more heat, which would join some of the cracks problems in some of the units. All this was happening, and it was stressful. But the only thing I will always say is, you know, this was, for us, a decisive moment.
“If we hadn’t done what we did, I’m not sure the Xbox brand would be today.”
Moore continued, saying: “We felt that it was well spent money to hold on to a brand we built, that we felt that it had great viability in the future, and of course,” he said. “And doing good for the players.”
However, Moore believes that if Xbox had fallen, the game industry as a whole would have suffered.
“The increase in tide raises all ships. Microsoft’s entry into the market created a massive rising tide,” he said. “They put billions of dollars in marketing, advertising, R&D, and I don’t think the industry is close to what Microsoft is not involved.”
In other news, Microsoft recently made significant cuts to its game division, dismissing an estimated 9,000 staff members and canceling multiple projects such as the Perfect dark reboot, Alwaysand an unnoticed MMO of The Elder Scrolls Online developer.
