- The images leaked from inside Sony Interactive Entertainment showed a character with AI
- Horizon Aloy was used as a prototype, taking advantage of Operai technology
- This could be a track of the future use of AI in PlayStation games
Future PlayStation games could have generative characters of AI if this filtration is something to happen.
A video posted by user X (previously Twitter) Oliver Darko shows what seems to be a filtering of a presentation of Sharwin Ragheebardajal, director of software engineering at Sony Interactive Entertainment, discussing the work in a prototype of AI as part of the PlayStation Studios de Sony technology group.
The footage (unfortunately, is not available to embed) showed Ragheebardajal interacting with an Alay with AI Horizon series; It seems that this prototype has been created with the help of the developer Guerrillas.
Ragheebardajal asks this Ai alyo “How are you?”, And after a pause, she responds, complete with precise facial moments, which is fine but is “dealing with sore throat.” The interaction feels a bit suffocated and a bit ‘strange valley’, but demonstrates a generative in action.
The conversation then evolves towards Ragheebardajal asking about the premise of the Horizon series and – *spoilers to Horizon Zero Dawn* – How Aloy feels about being a clone. She replies that it is a unique sensation.
The Verge obtained access to the full video and repeated that the prototype uses Openai Whisper text technology, Sony’s emotional voice synthesis to generate a somewhat realistic voice and models of great GPT-4 language and call 3 the decision making of Power Ai Aioy.
While this is largely a prototype and has some clear obstacles to overcome, as faster responses and less widespread speech, it is an interesting demonstration of how AI technology could be used in games.
This is just a look at what is possible, ”said Ragheebardajal, the Verge reported.
A new horizon for AI in games?
The natural reaction to this technology would be a concern that the generative AI could be used to replace the actors and voice writers in the game industry. Although I think it is a legitimate concern worthy of a deeper discussion and scrutiny, from this demonstration it does not seem that the generative AI is close to the task of replacing the quality of speech and the narrative delivered by human development teams, certainly not for AAA games.
However, just like Mountain horizon call It was used as a high-end showcase for all the features of PSVR 2, there is the scope that the same approach could be used to create a spin-out game or virtual experience using AI and the Horizon configuration.
I imagine an experience shortly in which you visit a handful of small centers in both Horizon Games and interact with their inhabitants, who use generative technology to answer questions and serve observations.
Likewise, given the extensive tradition in the Horizon Universe, I could see that an Alay with AI would be used as some partner form in the game or applications to serve information about certain parts of the world or how to address some of the robotic enemies.
I know from my experience assuming some of the largest dinosaur machines in West prohibited horizon I could have finished with someone or something to direct me about what to point out instead of rapidly scanning for vulnerable pieces while desperately avoiding the removal of health bars attacks desperately precisely precise.
Of course, Sony seems to be in the experimental stage here, and I doubt that we see a flood of AI in the PS5 games in the short term. But I would also be surprised if AI will not be used at PlayStation games later, let’s say when the PS6 arrives.
