Victor Pérez’s time in the notoriously challenging Oakmont’s golf course on Friday turned out to be memorable. The French golfer loaded an ace during the second round competition in the US Open.

It was only the second hole in one registered in a US Open at the Oakmont Country Club of Pennsylvania. Pérez welcomed in the sixth hole par 3 on Friday, using an iron 7 to hit the shot from 192 yards.

The ball bounced several times before finally shooting approximately three feet in the cup.

An animated Pérez raised his arms before giving his caddie a lump in his chest. Pérez also celebrated with his playmates, Adam Schenk and Jacob Bridgeman, as the spectators applauded.

Pérez admitted to nailing an ace is not based solely on skill.

“Obviously, a hole in one takes a little luck,” Pérez said. “Honestly, I was trying to hit something perhaps 15-20 feet beyond the hole. Maybe it turned a little more and bounced. I was a little fortunate, which I will definitely take.”

According to Pérez, it was the ninth of his career. He said he made two in the Bahamas, in his origin course, but no one could corroborate him because he was playing alone at that time.

“They didn’t believe me at home because I was playing alone,” Pérez said. “Now, they will know.”

The last known as Oakmont was the host of a United States open occurred in 1983. Scott Simpson charged an ace that year in Hole 16 in the first round.

The AS helped Pérez recover from an approximate beginning of second round. The second round ended in a draw for sixth place in 1 over.

Sam Burns ended the day at the top of the classification in 3 bass. Burns finished the US Open last year in a tie for ninth place.
