The Minister of Livestock and Fishing of Sindh, Muhammad Ali Malkani, has said that the provincial government is taking all necessary measures to increase seafood exports and is in contact with the federal government in this regard.
Speaking during the time of the question at the Sindh Assembly on Tuesday, Malkani answered several written and complementary questions of the members. He informed the Assembly that there are several Sindh hatcheries for fish reproduction, where seeds are seated. “We release fish seeds in rivers at the governmental level.” He said that efforts are being made to meet the standards established by the European Union to raise the ban on seafood exports, particularly for shrimp and fish.
Malkani said that those who establish factories for fishing export have assistance, but no subsidies are granted.
Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon requested to dispense vice president Naveed Anthony to address the issue of some members who ask irrelevant questions. Memon said there are existing rules to ask questions in the absence of a member.
Dr. Fauzia Hameed of MQM referred to the deplorable condition of the fishermen’s colonies, urging the government to take note. Aijaz Haq also pointed out that poor fishermen’s ships are sinking, and the government is not providing any installation to help them. Abdul Waseem de MQM asked about the legal action taken against those who use prohibited networks for fishing.
In response, Muhammad Ali Malkani said that while measures are taken, the department lacks sufficient resources. He also recognized the absence of cold storage facilities, but said the department will help fishermen in this regard. UCTED in collaboration with community -based organizations.
Meanwhile, parliamentary journalists made their voice heard in the Assembly, protesting against the amendment of the Electronic Crime Prevention Law (PCA) and demanded their retirement.
