The Minister of Law, Azam Nazeer, Tarar, extended an invitation to the opposition for dialogue on the 26th constitutional amendment, asking that the construction of consensus to address broader national challenges, said Express News.
Speaking during a national assembly session on Tuesday, he defended the amendment, which redefines the mechanism of judicial appointments, stating that it had been approved with a two -thirds majority. “If you think it can be improved even more, sit and discuss it,” he said.
The minister said that the revised appointment process, past to increase transparency and inclusion, was in line with international best practices.
“It was corrected to ensure that Parliament, as the mother of all institutions, is given the role it really deserves. This is how it is done throughout the world. Judicial appointments everywhere follow a similar model.”

He also expressed concern about prolonged delays in the judicial process, particularly the accumulation of cases of years. “I said this before, if we sit together, we can solve these problems,” he emphasized.
“Criminal cases often take a decade to conclude, and inmates convicted of death can go from 11 to 12 years in death cells. Should we not address that? Civil cases sometimes remain undecided for 30 years. Should we not act too?”
Tarar revealed that a draft that includes 108 constitutional amendments proposed is currently pending in the Law and Justice Committee. “Let’s start from there. We were ready before, and we are ready today. Withdrawal drafts will not solve any problem, the dialogue will do it,” he emphasized.

He stressed that political stability cannot be achieved through confrontation. “Where there is sincerity, there is always a way to follow,” he said, urging the parties through the hall to look for common land.
The minister also recalled the political developments of April 2022, when the National Assembly dissolved to block a motion of non -confidence.
“Now he says that the government is defective, but at that time, a resolution was dismissed in 90 seconds. Such decisions undermined the will of 250 million citizens,” he said.
He also warned against the double political scratch. “The assemblies dissolved for political convenience, and it is not the first time that politicians have faced consequences,” he said, asking for the dialogue “even behind closed doors, if necessary.”
