‘Chapter of talks with the government now closed’

In January of this year, the imprisoned founder of PTI, Imran Khan, suspended negotiations with the government due to his inability to constitute judicial commissions to investigate on May 9, 2023 disturbances, as well as the events of November 24, November 27, 2024, in relation to the protest of the party in Islamabad.

The negotiations between the government led by the Pakistan Muslim League (PML-N) and PTI began at the end of December last year in an effort to relieve political tensions. However, the PTI canceled conversations with the government after holding three sessions.

In February of this year, the leader of PTI, Omar Ayub Khan, ruled out the possibility of resuming dialogue between the former ruling party and the titular government.

“The chapter of the conversations is now closed,” said Ayub, adding that political negotiations were not based on simple wishes, but required firm commitments, which the government did not demonstrate.

The PTI leader said that the committee of his party had initiated discussions in good faith, but the other side showed no good will or intention.

The PTI, who also presented his written letter of demands, refused to attend the fourth round of conversations citing the government’s failure to form a judicial commission to investigate the disturbances of May 9 and the protests of November 2024.
