Karachi:
Prime Minister Murad Ali Shah inaugurated on Monday a rehabilitation center for children with physical and neurological development challenges.
The installation was established through the collaboration between Marie Adelaide Leprosy Center (MALC), the Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (DEPD) and the Government.
The opening event was attended by the Secretary of Depd, Taha Ahmed Farooqi, the general consul of the German, Dr. RĂ¼diger Lotz, the world health advisor of the German association of relief and the TB (Glra) Dr. Anil Fasstino and the CEO of Malc Mervyn Francis, among other notable figures.
Calling the center a lighthouse of hope for children with conditions such as autism and Down’s syndrome, as well as other physical and neurological challenges, the CM expressed that the vision of the government is to provide treatment and opportunities to these children so that they can live decent and satisfactory lives.
CM Shah revealed that the center offers an integral range of services provided by specialists. These include physiotherapy to improve the physical development of children, speech therapy to improve communication, corrective therapy to support cognitive development, behavioral therapy to encourage constructive behavior, occupational therapy that focuses on the skills of daily life and a sensory room to help children with sensory processing. In addition, the installation also offers a game area under professional supervision. The CM visited the center, reviewed the facilities and met with the children.
He also declared that the Government has assigned 100 acres of land near the Malir highway for the establishment of an inclusive city for people with special needs. The city will provide schools, rehabilitation centers, vocational training institutes, a hospital, a neuropsychiatric room and residential facilities, as well as a 20 -ACR park to offer a safe game space for children with special needs, together with a large construction of housing offices from several well -being organizations.
The CM declared that the city would become a model of accessibility and opportunity, where people with disabilities could live independently and actively contribute to society.
Meanwhile, answering a question, CM Shah declared that the provincial budget would be presented on June 13, 2025, with special attention to the agricultural sector. In addition, he urged the provincial representation in the K-Electric (KE) joints and other energy distribution companies, so that SNDH consumers can benefit directly.
He also declared that the government wants to administer Hyderabad Electric Supply Company (Hesco) and Sukkur Electric Power Company (Sepco) under a public-private partnership model.
The CM revealed that discussions with the federal government on the matter are ongoing, and although progress is being achieved, the results will take time.
