LAHORE:

The Punjab government is finishing a radical proposal to review the traffic sanctions throughout the province, and some fines are expected to increase up to ten times.

The measure, initiated under the directives of Prime Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, aims to curb road violations and improve public safety.

According to SSP Ghazanfar Ali Shah traffic, common crimes such as driving without a helmet, driving against traffic and driving without a valid license will now transport proposals for RS2,000.

“The fine ex-Inist structure has been in force since 2006 and is no longer effective in the current traffic envelope. A review is essential to improve the discipline of the road,” he said, adding that the updated fines will be applied immediately once approved.

In response to the growing concerns about traffic violations, Punjab traffic authorities have intensified operations against drivers without a license.

More than 178,000 Chalans were issued only this month to drive without a license, with LaHore representing more than 70,000 cases.

The Traffic of the Additional Inspector (AIG), Mirza Farhan Baig, has ordered all regional traffic units to adopt a zero tolerance approach to non -graduated motorists.

“It will not show indulgence. Citizens must obtain adequate licenses to guarantee their safety and avoid sanctions,” he said.

In another important development, the district police have been trained to help recover unpaid e-challans.

With more than RS6 billion in outstanding installments, the delinquent now face house raids and possible restrictions on vehicle transfers, records and other official processes.
