The Pakistan Human Rights Commission (HRCP) and other civil society representatives urged the Government on Thursday to address the “human rights crisis” that prevail in the country, including repressions in protesters and the misuse of blasphemia and cyber -renin laws.
Speaking at a press conference in Karachi, according to a press release, the president of HRCP, Asad Butt, and others highlighted “multiple human rights crises throughout the country”, including the suppression of dissent by force, restrictions on press freedom and a growing influence of the establishment on the government.
“The short -term forced disappearance of journalists and rights activists is now a significant cause of alarm,” said the press release, adding that the alleged role of the establishment in politics had “fluttered at the expense of democratic governance.” They said that accusations of political interference in the Judiciary had shaken public trust in the legal system.
