The advisor of the Prime Minister of Political and Public Affairs, Rana Sanaullah, declared Thursday that the Government would not object if the courts decide to free the founder of Pakistan Tehreek-E-Insaf (PTI) imprisoned Imran Khan.
The statement occurs when PTI is preparing for a national protest campaign after Eidul Fitr, with the aim of challenging what calls a “stolen mandate” and promoting the rule of law, constitutional supremacy and the release of political prisoners.
In addition to the political pressure, the chief of Jamiat Ulema-E-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F), Maulana Fazlur Rehman, also announced that his party plans to protest against the federal government’s policies after EID, aligning with the PTI agenda.
Speaking to journalists on Thursday, Sanullah stressed that Khan remains in jail due to sentences in multiple cases.
The former prime minister has been behind bars since August 2023, facing several positions ranging from corruption to terrorism after his expulsion through a motion without confidence in April 2022.
When commenting on the recent session in the Chamber of the National Security Parliamentary Committee, Sanullah declared that Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa’s prime minister, Ali Amin Gandapur, was urged to improve the capacities of the Police and the Department of Contraaterorism (CTD) in response to increased terrorist activities.
The high -level meeting, convened by the president of the National Assembly Ayaz Sadiq by the Council of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, addressed the deteriorated security situation, particularly in KP and Baluchistan.
While PTI’s parliamentary leadership, including the opposition leader, Omar Ayub, the session jumped, KP’s prime minister attended as representative of the province.
