Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi responded to several pressing problems during a press conference on Friday, including the next protest by Pakistan Tehreek-E-Insaf (PTI) scheduled for August 5, the presence of Afghan citizens in Pakistan and plans to address illegal housing societies in Islamabad.

Regarding the planned protest of the PTI, he commented: “Let PTI complete his preparations first, and then we will take our own measures.” This statement comes in response to questions about the government’s strategy to handle PTI’s call for a protest.

On the issue of Afghanistan, the Interior Minister emphasized the ongoing diplomatic dialogue of Pakistan with the Islamic Emirate, recognizing the importance of bilateral relations.

He also clarified Pakistan’s position on illegal foreign citizens who reside within their borders, stating that no indulgence would be shown so that no one is illegally, particularly to Afghan citizens.

“Afghan citizens who reside illegally in Pakistan will not receive extensions,” said Naqvi, while pointing out that Iran had recently expelled 300,000 Afghan nationals in the last two weeks.

The minister also addressed concerns regarding the growing number of illegal housing societies in Islamabad. He announced that a large -scale operation is being carried out against these unauthorized developments, with 133 illegal housing societies currently under scrutiny.

Touching other national issues, NAQVI shared that the Ministry of Interior is considering the appointment of a new officer to supervise issues related to armed institutions, but the final decision has not yet been taken.

On the issue of environmental concerns, he warned of Smog’s potential threat in Islamabad. He pointed out that the risk that Smog returns to the capital in the coming years remains significant, and efforts are being made to increase green areas in the city to combat this problem.

Regarding the infrastructure, the minister said that a path in the E-11 sector of Islamabad had been damaged due to the excavation by the SUI Gas Department, adding that the problem would be addressed soon.

He also briefly mentioned his comments on the situation in Baluchistan, clarifying that he was using the term “control” in a metaphorical sense by discussing the role of the police in the fight against terrorism in the province.

Finally, Naqvi highlighted the role of Pakistan leadership in the prevention of greater escalation in the Iran-Israel conflict. “The Prime Minister and the Army Chief have played a key role in the prevention of the Iran-Israel War,” he said.
