- Xbox portfolio GM advises independent studios to create their games for current Xbox consoles and PCs so they are ready for Project Helix.
- Chris Charla says that “doing this guarantees that they will have a native version of Project Helix”
- He added that Project Helix will be easier for developers to work with.
Xbox portfolio and program general manager Chris Charla has said it will be easier for developers to work with Project Helix, but advises studios to prioritize developing their games for current-gen and PC first.
“We’re working hard so developers can create an Xbox in the future that will run on their Project Helix console, on PCs, and on streaming and cloud platforms like smart TVs and other devices,” Charla said.

He went on to say that he hopes to be able to offer the same support that Xbox now offers to developers looking to create games for Project Helix. For example, assistance with implementing Xbox APIs, working with backend systems, business processes, sharing marketing data, and more.
Charla also advised developers, particularly independent studios, to create games for Xbox Series
“Someone who wants to be ready for the next generation with Xbox should be developing for the Xbox console today, developing for Xbox on PC and supporting Xbox Play Anywhere,” Charla said.
“That will put you in pole position for next-gen and ensure that your Xbox game on PC runs natively on Project Helix. The exact details may differ depending on the developer and the game. In many cases, if you are coming from a Steam or PC version, it may be smarter to start with the PC version of Xbox first and then use that as a base for the Xbox console version.
“Of course, we will have more details on how developers can take advantage of Project Helix-specific hardware features in the coming months, but this guarantees that they will have a native version of Project Helix.”
Project Helix was revealed earlier this month and alpha versions of the hardware are expected to be in the hands of developers starting in 2027.
Microsoft has also shared some of the specifications for the console, which will offer next-generation performance, including a custom AMD-based SOC, co-designed for next-generation DirectX and FSR, and improved ray tracing performance.
