An ongoing heat wave in South Punjab has caused a strong increase in skin ailments.

A skin specialist, Dr. Waqas Arqam Malik, said heat and sweat were contributing to the spread of fungal infections, rashes, body smell problems and acne outbreaks.

He added that blocked sweat pores provide a culture broth for bacteria and fungi, especially in individuals with fatty or sensitive skin.

Patients suffering from spiny heat, armpit infections, foot fungi and eruptions in body folds are visiting clinics in increasing numbers.

If not, such conditions can lead to pigmentation and inflammation of the recurrent skin, the doctor added.

He advised people to keep personal hygiene when taking showers twice a day during intense sweating, using antimicotic powders in skin folds and avoiding creams and thick makeup, which can block pores.

He recommended wearing a light and adjusted cotton clothes, remain hydrated and change the sweat soaked clothes regularly.

He also advised to avoid direct sunlight between 11 am and 4 pm and apply the sunscreen before passing outdoors.
