- Latest limited edition DualSense controller is ‘Icon Blue’
- We have the controller in our hands and it is beautiful and bold.
- It’s full of special details, but the vibrant shades of blue make it a winner.
PlayStation has already released an excellent limited edition kit, including DualSense wireless controllers and even complete consoles themed to celebrate the brand’s 30th anniversary or for iconic titles like the last of us. However, the most recent version may look like a purely color-based version, but it is full of special details that make it a delight.
The new limited edition DualSense Icon Blue Special Edition controller might be one of the hardest units to get your hands on, given its limited release in the United States, Canada, Mexico, and Chile. In the United States, it has an MSRP of $84 and has been in and out of stock at Walmart. That retailer’s choice, well, it certainly screams blue synergy.
But with limited edition status, TechRadar got its hands on one, and it’s one of the most delightfully vibrant DualSense controllers in quite some time. Mixing iconic shades of blue, which is a color synonymous with the most modern chapter of PlayStation, especially the loading screens, and adjusting finishes from glossy to matte with classic characters embedded in the middle.
Below, I’ll give you my brief first thoughts on the PS5 controller, as well as letting you peruse a gallery of images and check out our first look. But if you’re interested in getting your hands on this Blue DualSense controller, you’ll want to act fast and probably have a little luck.
After a fairly standard unboxing as far as the DualSense controllers are concerned, you’ll immediately see the vibrant main hull colors of this special edition. As the name suggests, Icon Blue is a fusion of various color shades, with the main hull opting for a darker side at the extremities and slightly lighter shades on the inside, including the joysticks. It’s all matte finish on the front, which also helps with grip.
The touchpad, possibly one of my favorite parts of a DualSense, besides the impressive tactile feel, has a not-so-hidden detail of PlayStation characters, including the Circle, X, Square and Triangle. Depending on how the light hits the controller, these will be a little more visible and are not raised, but rather flush with the smooth surface of the touchpad.
The triggers – well, at least the bottom part for the left and right side – are a slightly darker shade of blue with a glossy finish, giving the DualSense some flair. My favorite part, however, is on the back, above the normal regulatory information, Sony with a copyright logo and the model: a special set of characters in light blue.
Specifically, it is the Katakana characters that spell “PlayStation.” This is a great nod to the brand’s history and actually a nice surprise. It also pairs nicely with the subtle, almost invisible textured coating on the back of the DualSense; Thanks to the macro lens of an iPhone 17 Pro Max, it reveals that they are actually the same classic PlayStation icons that we all know. And yes, other DualSenses have this feature, but considering the visibility in blue, this is a real surprise.
And that concludes the DualSense Icon Blue Special Edition controller – it’s packed with all the specs, hardware and features we know and love that make it a great input device for playing titles, and it’s simply finished off in a vibrant collection of shades to celebrate PlayStation. It’s not as classic as the 30th anniversary theme, but it’s surprisingly charming for more than just providing a splash of color. I wish it came with a USB-C to USB-C cable in the same color, but alas.
If you can find one, the DualSense Icon Blue Special Edition controller is now available in the United States for $84, as well as in Canada, Mexico, and Chile.
