The IMF Review Mission has arrived in Pakistan to carry out an economic review of the payment of the next share of $ 1 billion of the $ 7 billion rescue package.

According to sources from the Ministry of Finance, the Economic Review negotiations with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) will continue until March 15. In this sense, the first phase will imply technical discussions, while the second phase will focus on politics negotiations.

Directed by Nathan Porter, the 9-member IMF delegation will remain in Pakistan for almost two weeks and will also provide proposals for the next Fiscal Year 2025-2026, said Express News.

The sources have indicated that relief for salaried people will only be possible if the IMF gives approval. The review mission will maintain discussions with the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Energy, Planning and the State Bank.

According to the sources, the IMF delegation will also have conversations with other institutions and ministries, including FBR, Ogra, Nepri and others.

Previously, the advisor of the Minister of Finance of Pakistan said that the IMF will also discuss around $ 1 billion in climate financing for Pakistan.

The Advisor of the Minister of Finance, Khurram Schehzad, told Reuters that the mission would visit from February 24 to 28 for a “review and discussion” of the financing of climate resilience.

The disbursement will take place under the resistance and sustainability trustee of the fund, created in 2022 to provide long -term concessional cash for weather -related spending, such as adaptation and transition to cleaner energy.

Pakistan made a formal request in October last year for about $ 1 billion in IMF funds under the trust, to address the vulnerability of the nation to climate change.

The economy of the country is on a long way to recovery after being stabilized under an extended fund installation of $ 7 billion of the IMF that it obtained at the end of last year.
