A delegation of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) has arrived in Pakistan to carry out an exhaustive review of governance and corruption problems.

According to the sources, the IMF team will begin meetings with Pakistani officials on Monday.

The main objective of the mission is to provide technical assistance to improve Pakistan’s reform capacity. Discussions will focus on strengthening governance and addressing corruption problems, with the aim of supporting Pakistan reform efforts.

The sources say that the IMF team will review the budget proposals for fiscal year 2025-26 and will participate in monitoring negotiations regarding technical support for governance problems.

The delegation will also discuss measures to improve fiscal income, control government expenditure and finish the proposals for the next budget with officials of the Ministry of Finance.

The federal budget for fiscal year 2025-26 is expected to be presented at the National Assembly during the first week of June.

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) recently praised the Pakistani government for its fiscal policy efforts, particularly in the reduction of public debt, inflation control, improving fiscal equity and maintenance of prices stability. This recognition was issued on March 26.

In addition, last month, the IMF reached an agreement with Pakistan for a new agreement of $ 1.3 billion and agreed to the first revision of the 37 -month rescue program, according to the IMF statement.
