The IMF ‘turns the deaf ear’ to the application of India

Islamabad:

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has directed a deaf ear to India’s demand to stop its loan program for Pakistan.

Representation of the IMF resident in Pakistan Esther Perez Ruiz clarified in an informal conversation that the Fund Executive Board will continue with its agenda on May 9, and Pakistan’s request will also be considered at that meeting. “We cannot comment on the concerns raised by other countries,” he said.

According to officials of the Ministry of Finance, the country is expected to receive a package of $ 2.3 billion of the IMF during the meeting. The meeting is also expected to approve a program of resilience and sustainability facilities (RSF) of $ 1.3 billion related to climate financing.

The funds will be disbursed in quotas for a period of 28 months to help Pakistan face the challenges of climate change. On March 25, an agreement was reached at the personnel between Pakistan and the IMF on March 25.

Previously, media reports citing a foreign news agency declared that an Indian government official had urged the IMF to review their financial assistance to Pakistan. However, no more details were provided about the demand.

Meanwhile, Khurram Shehzad, an advisor to the Minister of Finance, told a foreign news agency that the IMF program is progressing in the right direction and the recent review has been completed successfully.
