Okara:
A merchandise train to Karachi was deranged near Okara Cantt on Saturday due to the negligence of railway personnel, causing interruptions in rail traffic.
According to the details, the train had separated from Lahore to Karachi, but when it approached Okara Cantt, the railroad track was not changed in time, which forced the driver to apply sudden brakes.
Sudden brakes caused engine derailment and several bogies.
The accident left the driver of the injured train and trapped inside the damaged locomotive. The rescue teams managed to extract it from the remains and provided medical assistance.
Speaking after the incident, the driver declared that he had no choice but to apply sudden brakes to avoid a frontal collision since the railway had not changed.
Lahore and Fine Railway staff were called to repair the damaged route.
After derailment, both railways closed, suspending train operations between Karachi and Lahore. Passenger trains stopped for hours at the Okara and Sahiwal railroad stations, causing severe travelers.
However, one of the tracks was restored after seven hours, partially resuming operations.
According to an initial investigation conducted by the Railroad Police, the accident was attributed to a combination of speeding and a delay in the change of the track.
