The authorities said in April that the death of the 14 -year -old son of Brett Gardner, Miller, was caused by carbon monoxide, but that the authorities are still investigating whether it was a homicide.

The Gardner family announced Miller’s death on March 23, two days after having died. The authorities ruled the cause of death on April 3 after both food poisoning and suffocation investigated.

However, according to ESPN, a spokesman for the Costa Rican prosecutor’s office who handles the case said the case remains under investigation, and prosecutors are still determining whether death will declare homicide.

“The purpose of the investigation is precisely to determine whether or not we are dealing with a possible homicide. For this reason, it is not possible at this time to confirm or rule out that a crime has been committed,” said the spokesman.

Miller was tested for carboxyhemoglobin, a compound generated when carbon monoxide binds to blood hemoglobin. The test showed a 64%saturation level. It is considered lethal when carboxyhamoglobin saturation exceeds 50%.

The Gardner family stayed at the Arenas del Mar Hotel in Manuel Antonio.

Several family members fell ill during the trip, the Gardners announced.

“We have many questions and so few answers at this time, but we know that he died peacefully as he slept on the morning of Friday, March 21,” said the family’s statement. “Miller was a beloved son and brother and we still can’t understand our life without his infectious smile. He loved football, baseball, golf, hunting, fishing, his family and his friends. Life lived to the fullest every day.”
