- According to reports, the iPhone 17 series will lack an antirreflexive and resistant coating to previously rumored scratches
- Apparently, it was taking too long to apply to the millions of iPhones that Apple is building
- In other news, the iPhone 17 series is scheduled for a September launch
One of the first rumors of iPhone 17 suggested that the next phones would have an anti -reflective and resistant display coating of scratches, but now we are listening to this will not be the case after everything.
It seems that the original claim may have been correct at that time, since a source “with reliable information” told Macrumors that this had been planned for the iPhone 17 Pro and the iPhone 17 Pro Max.
But apparently the process to apply the coating to the millions of phones that Apple is building was taking too much time, so it is said that the company discarded the idea, at least for this year.
What Macrumors is not clear is whether Apple has changed to use a simpler coating, or perhaps a nano-texture screen (which can also reduce reflections and is currently used in some iPads and Mac), or if the screens of the iPhone 17 series will not be more anti-reflective than current models.
A great lady
While we would take this statement with a pinch of salt, it certainly sounds credible since we had not heard anything about this coating in a long time. And it is a shame, because this sounded like a great update for Apple phones.
Reducing reflexes and the glow would make colors seem more faithful to life and less washed in bright lighting conditions, and the other characteristic of this coating, its scratch resistance, obviously it would help keep the screen safe from the damage.
Therefore, it is not surprising that Apple fans have not responded well to this news, with a long Reddit thread that includes comments such as “this is a shame”, “really feeding behind”, and “I will probably change to Samsung”, with those last two comments they probably refer to the fact that the Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra has an anti-reflective anti-reflective coat.
Even so, there are some good news from the iPhone 17, as in a digitime report with payment walls (through BGR), he states that Apple has completed engineering validation tests (EVT) for at least one iPhone 17 model.
If that is correct, and nothing changes, it should mean that Apple is currently on the way to launch the iPhone 17 series in September.
