- Apple’s iPhone 18 could get an important chips update after all
- This statement comes from an analyst who has reviewed his initial prediction.
- Apple could also be working on a stronger front glass panel for iPhones
A few days ago, Apple Pu analyst said in a research note that Apple’s A20 chip, which will come to the iPhone 18 alignment, would offer a disappointing performance increase with past chips. Now, PU has just reversed the course about this idea.
In the original report, PU said that the A20 chip will be carried out with a 3 nanometers process called N3P. While this is expected to bring improvements to performance and efficiency, it is likely that they are only modest changes compared to the A19 chip of the iPhone 17, which are also likely to be carried out using a 3NM process.
That was strange because he crashed with another report from the GF Employer Securities of PU, which described that Apple would use a 2 Nm process in the A20.
After being contacted by Macrumors, PU has updated the report to clarify that the A20 could really use a 2NM process. If it is correct, this would probably mean a much more significant increase in performance, and could make the iPhone 18 a tempting perspective if you are thinking of updating your device.
Your iPhone screen protection
There is more good news for iPhone fans in the form of a new patent discovered by Patently Apple. Here, Apple describes a new technique that would strengthen the frontal surface of the iPhone with a mixture of glass and other components.
In the patent, Apple explains that combining various different materials can lead to a screen of the resistant front iPhone to scratches, it can reduce the reflexes and prevent the screen from witnessing over time.
This is done taking the front vessel and applying a hard coating that is resistant to scratches and the burnished. Under that, an ‘interference layer’ composed of several compounds can be included, which helps reduce reflexes when looking at the screen. The idea is to give your iPhone a variety of different protections without making the screen too thick or heavy.
It is an interesting idea, but we may have to wait a little until we see it. Apple only presented the patent in September 2024, so it is very unlikely that this technology has reached the range of the iPhone 16. It is no longer an assumption of anyone who reaches the iPhone 17, but with six months to the end until Apple reveals its next iPhones, we will keep our eyes wide open.
