- iPhone 18 could come with an under-screen camera
- It is a feature that has been rumored for several years.
- Apple is apparently currently testing the change.
All iPhone launches are set for this year, which means we can turn our attention to 2026 and the iPhone 18, and the latest rumor to surface suggests this could be the phone where Apple finally decides to add an under-screen selfie camera.
According to well-known tipster Smart Pikachu (via Wccftech), Apple is at least testing under-display camera technology for iPhone 18 phones, which would mean the display notch could be reduced in size or disappear entirely.
If you think this sounds familiar, it may be because this has been rumored to be coming to the iPhone for years. Maybe 2026 will finally be the year it actually happens, although of course nothing is certain yet.
Other sources have also predicted that an under-display Face ID camera is on the table for iPhone 18 phones, adding more credibility to this latest leak. We’ve also heard rumors that Apple is slowly working towards a full-screen iPhone.
Apple will not be the first
Other smartphone makers have been experimenting with under-screen cameras for years. You may remember that the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3, which was launched in 2021, came with a camera below the 7.6-inch main screen.
However, it’s worth noting that the camera wasn’t particularly good and Samsung has since abandoned the technology, at least for the time being. All Galaxy phones released in 2025 have conventional selfie cameras, including the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7.
While Apple hasn’t always been the first in industry innovation, it tends to implement new technologies in a better way than most or all of its competitors. Touch ID and Face ID would be two examples of this, and the foldable iPhone could well be another.
Well-placed sources have suggested that Apple could change its iPhone release schedule next year, with the Pro models coming in September and the standard iPhone 18 in March 2026. When these phones appear, keep an eye on the cameras.
