- The iPhone Air 2 could have two rear cameras
- This second snapper would apparently be ultrawide, but Apple is said to be just considering it.
- iPhone Air 2 screen and design may not change
There are a lot of things to like about the iPhone Air, but by making it so thin, Apple made big concessions, including equipping the phone with a single rear lens. That same commitment may not be made for the iPhone Air 2, however.
According to Digital Chat Station (via 9to5Mac), the iPhone Air 2 could have a 48MP ultrawide camera in addition to the main 48MP one.
It seems like this is something Apple is currently considering, rather than something it has decided, but we certainly hope this happens, as a premium phone with a single rear camera is a tough sell.
That said, we’d take this with a pinch of salt, as Apple is apparently not only considering this, but it’s a claim that’s at odds with another recent iPhone Air 2 leak, which again pointed to just one rear camera. Additionally, it might be difficult for Apple to add a second rear camera without making the phone thicker, so that would also be a consideration for the company.
stay the same
In any case, Digital Chat Station claims that the iPhone Air 2 will see a few other changes, apparently returning to have a 6.5-inch 120Hz display, Face ID, a thin and light build, and the same overall design as the original iPhone Air, aside from the possible presence of an additional lens, as you can see in the image they shared above.
We certainly expect some things to be updated on the iPhone Air 2, so if everything remains the same, then it would make sense to add an extra camera.
Otherwise, the only real upgrade might be the chipset, and since the original iPhone Air is reportedly no longer selling well, any successor really needs more than just a power boost to shake things up.
Still, it’s early days for iPhone Air 2 leaks, as this phone probably won’t arrive before September, so there’s a good chance we’ll learn about other possible updates in the coming months.
