- The Apple wallet application obtained a great update of iOS 26 on wwdc 2025
- There are new features to travel, from passports to boarding passes
- Virtual car keys are also reaching more vehicles
In his WWDC 2025 event earlier this week, Apple took the time to show some new features that reach their wallet application in iOS 26. This could facilitate that never administer their passports, boarding passes and more, and there are also new additions to connected cars that use virtual car keys using wallet.
To start, Apple Wallet is adding the ability to store virtual passports. Apple says that “it is not a replacement for a physical passport, and it cannot be used for international trips and border crossings instead of an American passport.” Even so, it can be used at several TSA control points “for identity verification purposes during national trips.” At this time, unfortunately it is limited to US passports.
Speaking of trips, Wallet can now provide more information about your stored shipping passes. These include live activities that show the progress of their flight, maps to their terminal verification point and assigned luggage and information about their arrival, door, luggage claim area and more.
The wallet updates are not only limited to the airline’s trips, since it can now show driving licenses and state ID to websites for age and identity verification. Currently, this works with services such as Chime, Turo, Uber Eats and Us Bank, in addition to the MVD of Arizona, Georgia DDS and Maryland MVA.
Apple intelligence and car keys
Thirdly, the wallet has also been updated with Apple Intelligence, which can now be used to identify, summarize and show orders monitoring that it finds in its emails. The iOS 26 update also means that you can pay in installments or with rewards when you buy in the store using the wallet application.
However, the wallet application is not only used for purchases and trips: it can also store the virtual car keys that unlock a connected vehicle using your phone. With iOS 26, that comes to more manufacturers, as seen by 9to5Mac.
At the moment, the virtual car keys operate with 20 vehicle brands, including Audi, BMW, Hyundai and Volvo. In WWDC 2025, Apple said that 13 more brands would add the function soon, with manufacturers such as Cadillac, GMC and Porsche on the list (scroll down to get the complete list). We still don’t know when these brands will add support, but with Apple mocking them soon, we hope we don’t have much to wait.
All that means that Apple’s application will be much more capable when IOS 26 is launched this fall (although you can try it by downloading the beta of iOS 26 developer).
Whether you are traveling or paying something on the march, it could be an excellent option, and with Apple according to allowing users to choose different payment applications in the EU, we could see that some of these features also go to rival applications.
