An Oklahoma man who promised his loyalty to the Islamic State wanted to carry out a terrorist attack against the Oklahoma Sooners football stadium in 2023, as shown in the judicial records.

Landon Kyle Swinford said he and a source that turned out to be an undercover officer noticed failures in the stadium’s security situation and began exploring the place, according to the documents.

Swinford “had seen barricades and security and thought that the stadium could be a potential objective for an attack,” says the records.

Swinford and the undercover officer communicated from May 2023 to that October, and Swinford told the undercover officer that he intended to travel to Tunisia to fight for the Islamic State.

Swinford said “sadly” he would have carried out the attack if he could have paid it.

Swinford also had an interest in attacking New Orleans, which was the site of a terrorist attack on New Year’s Day. Swinford allegedly wanted to carry out an attack during Mardi Gras in the Voodoo Temple.
