The president of the Islamic Ideological Council, Dr. Raghib Hussain Naemi, has announced the guidelines to pay Fitrana (alms) and Raza Fidya (compensation for lost fasting) for the current year.

According to the recommendations of the Council, a minimum of RS220 must be paid per person as a fitrana according to wheat, while those who opt for other forms of food products such as dates, raisins or dry apricot must pay variable amounts.

Specifically, phytrana for dates is calculated at RS1,650 for raisins at RS2,500 and for dry apricot at RS5,000.

Dr. Naeemi emphasized that Fitrana and Fidya should be paid according to one’s financial capacity. He reiterated that Fitrana is a mandatory beneficial organization for all Muslims, both men and women, free and enslaved, and must be administered before the end of Ramadan.

The announcement also provided detailed calculations for those who choose to pay based on different foods.

For example, the amount of 30 days of Fidya (compensation for lost fasting) is RS6,600 for wheat, RS13,500 for barley, RS49,500 for dates, RS75,000 for raisins and RS150,000 rupees for dried rowers.

Dr. Naeemi also highlighted the Kaffara (penalty) for deliberately breaking fast, which implies fasting for 60 consecutive days or feeding 60 people in need two meals each.

In addition, people who use subsidized governmental wheat flour can pay only RS160 for their contributions as Fitrana and Fidya.
