QUETTA:
An explosion hit a railway in the Dasht area of the Mastung district in Baluchistan on Tuesday, pointing to Jaffar Express traveling from Peshawar to Quetta and wounding a dozen passengers.
The authorities said the device was an improvised explosive planted near the road, which detonated when the train passed. The explosion caused four Bogies to derail and leave several passengers, including women and children, injured.
Rescue teams and security forces quickly arrived at the site to evacuate the victims. The injured were taken to hospitals in Quetta, and declared an emergency to guarantee timely medical care.
Health officials reported that, although some passengers suffered minor injuries, others remain in serious condition and are receiving critical care. The images shared online showed rescue teams that worked with the police to clear the remains and help passengers.
The railway authorities confirmed that the explosion severely damaged the road, forcing a suspension of trains services in the area. An investigation has been launched, although no group has attributed the responsibility of the attack.
Railroad Minister Hanif Abbasi ordered an investigation into the Jaffar Express incident and ordered the authorities to submit a report within 24 hours.
