The JCP will hold three crucial meetings today


The first meeting will consider establishing rules for the appointment of FCC judges; second to confirm three IHC judges

ISLAMABAD:

The constitutional body responsible for the elevation of judges to the higher judiciary will today hold crucial meetings to confirm the appointment of additional judges to two high courts as well as to formulate rules for the appointment of judges to the newly formed Federal Constitutional Court (FCC).

The Judicial Commission of Pakistan (JCP) will meet in the conference hall of the Supreme Court building under the chairmanship of Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Yahya Afridi, who is also the president of the JCP. The first meeting will take place at 1:30 p.m., during which members will consider formulating rules for the appointment of FCC judges.

In the second meeting, scheduled for 2 pm, the confirmation of three additional judges of the Islamabad High Court (IHC) will be deliberated. The judges under consideration include Justice Muhammad Azam Khan, Justice Muhammad Asif and Justice Inaam Ameen Minhas.

The third meeting will be held at 2:30 pm, during which the JCP will consider confirmation of two additional judges of the Balochistan High Court (BHC). The judges under review are Justice Muhammad Ayub Khan and Justice Najam Ud-Din Mengal.

The commission will discuss what should be the procedure for conducting interviews of candidates before appointing judges to the higher judiciary.
