Karachi: A Local Court approved on Monday the request for bail of the journalist Farhan Malick that has been in judicial custody related to a case registered under the Law of Electronic Crime Prevention (PECA) for allegedly disseminating antistatal content.
The court, which granted the bond to Malick, ordered him to present a guarantee bonus worth RS100,000.
The journalist, former news director of a private television channel, was initially arrested by the Federal Research Agency (FIA) on March 20 for allegedly violating Peca and defamation participation.
In addition to the Peca case, the court also approved the Malick bond in a case related to its alleged participation in the operation of an illegal call center responsible for stealing data from foreigners and disappointing them.
The court ordered him to also provide a guarantee of RS100,000 for bail in this case.
Peca’s contentious law was recently amended, and journalist agencies throughout the country have protest against the law, calling it an attempt to gag freedom of expression and intimidate people in the news and their media.
A FIR was filed against him under multiple sections of Peca, read with Section 190 of the Pakistan Criminal Code (incrusting punishment if the law was committed accordingly and where no express provision is made for his punishment) and 500 (punishment for defamation).
“During the course of the investigation, the initial technical analysis of the alleged YouTube channel was received, which revealed that the alleged person is involved in the generation and dissemination of publications and videos related to the antiestatal, which consists of false news and an agenda of public incitement,” said the FIR.

Previously in the case, a local court dismissed his bail statement on March 28, which was later challenged in a district court and sessions.
Malick was sent to the prison in judicial prison on March 25 after a court rejected the request of the FIA of an extension in physical prison.
After the expiration of her four -day physical prison, the FIA presented the main journalist to the judicial magistrate (East), looking for an extension of the preventive detention.
However, the Court rejected the request of the FIA of its physical return and, instead, sent Malick to jail for judicial return.
