- More firmware testing is currently underway for the triple
- The model number points to an unlocked US variant.
- We may see the phone unveiled in full on December 5.
It seems like a long, long time ago that Samsung gave us the first official teaser of its upcoming triple phone, but it was actually only in January of this year. Now, a new leak suggests that its launch is finally imminent, while strongly hinting at its availability in the United States.
SamMobile has discovered that firmware testing is already underway for a Samsung phone with model number SM-F968U1. That number may not mean much to you, but if you know your Samsung, it points to an unlocked model of a US variant.
It follows firmware testing for the SM-F968U model, which is believed to be the carrier-locked version coming to the US soon. This is based on the way Samsung has ordered its model numbers in the past.
The SamMobile team notes that this is a little later than would be expected for firmware testing, but suggests that Samsung fans in the US will be able to purchase the phone. There has been some debate about how widely available the phone would be.
What we think we know so far
Since that first official preview in January, there have been many leaks about what we can expect from this foldable with an additional fold. It will apparently fold inwards and have a separate outer screen, unlike the Huawei Mate XT.
Some advanced software multitasking capabilities are expected to take advantage of that extra-large screen, which is rumored to measure 10 inches, from corner to corner, when opened properly (as we saw in a brief official appearance).
Based on previous leaks, it seems that the phone will support NFC payments, wireless charging, and reverse charging. We also believe it will be powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset.
Other leaks have pointed to a large 5,600 mAh battery and a release date of Friday, December 5. Considering Samsung has promised the phone will be out by the end of the year, it could arrive any time between now and 2026.
