- May 10 May 10 update carries an error that could be a painful experience
- Microsoft has already hurried to an emergency solution
- Be sure to apply that solution before installing the May update, but if you have already found this error, there is still an output
Windows 10 users must take into account a new error in the last update of the operating system, although it is a failure that will be much more frequent with laptops of business instead of consumer machines.
This is because if your PC with Windows 10 meets the problem, it can be quite unpleasant to have to rescue your system, and you can avoid any potentially technically traumatic episode simply by installing an emergency solution that Microsoft has just hurried.
Windows last reported the problem with May update for Windows 10, which makes an affected PC not install the update, and then execute an automatic repair, a process that can occur several times, confusingly.
Add more to confusion is that if you have bitlocker encryption or activated device (so the data in your unit are encrypted), it will end on the recovery screen. That recovery process requests your key ID, and if you don’t have that information by hand, then you are in a pickle, we say.
However, we cover those most important warnings, the main one is that it is affected, its PC must execute an Intel VPro processor (tenth generated or newer). This is because the error is related to Intel’s confidence execution technology (TXT for abbreviation), which is part of the VPRO matrix of security measures.
As the name implies, VPRO is a brand of chips mainly used for professional (commercial) notebooks, but they can also be found in laptops consumer. As Microsoft points out: “consumption devices generally do not use Intel VPRO processors and they are less likely to be affected by this problem.”
It is worth verifying if its PC has an Intel VPRO chip inside, and if you have done so, if you have not yet installed May’s update for Windows 10 22h2, whatever you do, pause.
Instead of obtaining the accumulated update of May, to avoid the error in question, be sure to install the Microsoft emergency patch that was implemented yesterday.
This is KB5061768, which can only install manually, will not be delivered by Windows Update. Obtain the Microsoft updates catalog here and download the ‘Windows 10 version 1903 and posterior’ variant that is correct for your PC. (It is likely that it is the 64 -bit version (or x64): verify its type of processor in the specifications section of the device of System> on In the configuration application, but if it does not have a CPU and a 64 -bit operating system, you want the X86 version, ignore the arm variant).
Break down the problem and what to do if you are already beaten and blocked from your PC
What is really happening with this fault? There is some problem with the May update for Windows 10 that is causing a process (lsass.exe, a security related service) ends unexpectedly. This is causing the automatic repair process to be executed to try to solve things, although as indicated above, its Windows 10 PC can make several failed repeated attempts to install the update before it surrenders and return to the previous update (with luck).
That is messy, but things are worse for those who use device encryption or bitlocker, which could end up stuck on the recovery screen if they do not have their recovery key at hand.
So what happens if the ship has been lost to install this emergency solution from Microsoft, since it has already installed the May update for Windows 10, and now you cannot enter its system (beyond the recovery screen) to download and apply?
Well, in this case, Microsoft advises that in order to start success, you must deactivate Intel’s confidence execution technology and another configuration, Intel vt for direct I/s, in the bios of your PC. However, that apparently requires entering your Bitlocker recovery key (again problematic if you do not have it by hand).
If you are trapped at this particular dead, according to the latest with Windows Last, it is possible to simply deactivate Intel’s confidence execution technology (TXT) in your bios, without touching the other configuration (Intel VT), and then you can successfully restart your PC to return to the desk.
The first step here is to enter the BIOS, and the method to do so varies according to your PC (verify the manuals supplied with your machine). The key to accessing BIOS can be a series of possibilities, but it is often F2, F10 or F12, which repeatedly press when the system begins to start.
Once in the BIOS, you must find the Intel Txt configuration (or trust execution technology). This is probable in safety> virtualization, system safety configuration, or a system -related label or system configuration. Most likely, it is a security -related title, so you carefully verify any option screen that you are looking for. When you locate this, take it, but as mentioned, you can leave Intel vt for I/O directly.
Now choose the option to save changes in the BIOS and restart your PC, and you must return to Windows 10, where you can now install the Microsoft patch (KB5061768) in the update catalog. Once this is done, you can return to your bios and turn on intel txt.
After all, to avoid any possible disorder like this, it is a much better idea to install the solution before obtaining the accumulated May update for Windows 10.
This is not the first time that Microsoft visits an error like this in Windows 10 users (or in fact Windows 11 PC). It is also worth remembering that if you are running Windows 11 and updates to the latest version, 24h2, using a clean installation, this applies the device encryption function automatically. Keep in mind that an update at the place to Windows 11 24h2 will not do this, just a clean Windows 11 24h2 installation. In addition, it must also be an installation linked to a Microsoft account, since that is where the information of the encryption recovery key is saved (so it must be very careful when eliminating a Microsoft account, as the key fades with it).
The device encryption is basically a ‘lite’ version of Bitlocker, which provides encryption for home Windows 11, but only covers the data in the main system unit.
