Marshall, a Kentucky native and Ohio state Alum, he was recruited by the Cleveland Browns in the fourth Round of the NFL Draft of 1960 and had a successful 20 -year career, mainly with the Vikings.

Marshall established a NFL record for position players playing 282 consecutive regular season games, a record that was until 2010, when Brett Favre broke it as a member of the Vikings. Marshall also established the NFL record with 29 loose ball recoveries in his career.

Marshall played 19 of his 20 seasons with the Vikings. He was a key member of the four appearances in the Super Bowl of Minnesota during that period. He also won a NFL championship in 1969, one year before merger.
