The best Garmin watches are excellent health and physical state trackers, capable of monitoring their dream, training, recovery and daily life, and offers some processable ideas. They are super popular, but suffer the same problems as most other physical conditioning trackers do: a lack of context.
When you see a heart rate graph throughout the day and compare it with your results during the last week, it does not tell you much inside the void without context of the graph. It will determine when it is asleep, characterized by a lower heart rate, and when it has exerted, generally characterized by a higher heart rate (unless, of course, it is exceptionally shape).
However, sleep and activity do not tell the whole story. What causes a bad night of sleep? What happens to the effects of caffeine, alcohol, heavy and light meals in its heart rate? What about chronic disease outbreaks or the effects of women’s cycles? Statistics without context are rarely usable and useful on individual scale.
That’s where Garmin’s new lifestyle registration function enters.
What is the lifestyle record?
The lifestyle record is a new feature of instant journalism added to the Garmin Connect application. Available through the Health Statistics tab, it allows you to create a list of useful labels, ranging from ‘caffeine’, ‘alcohol’ and ‘heavy food’ to ‘eye mask’, ‘stretching’ and ‘sauna’.
Once your label list has been created, the lifestyle record allows you to add labels to your day at the relevant moments. You can configure Garmin Connect to ask you to add labels at certain times to obtain consistency. For example, you can ask you at 8 am, so you remember adding labels for your night behaviors, such as ‘Read in bed’ and those in the morning as ‘coffee’.
What Garmin users obtain a lifestyle record?
All. You do not need a specific clock to use the lifestyle record function, since it is widely available in the Garmin Connect application. You only need a clock capable of measuring heart rate.
It does not even need the Garmin Connect+ Premium subscription with AI: it is a characteristic available for users at each level. Just be sure to update Garmin Connect, and should be able to find the function in More> Health Statistics> Lifestyle registration.
How to configure and use the lifestyle record
Once you have accessed Garmin’s lifestyle record through the previous route, you will be asked to choose between a list of labels called “behaviors.” It is recommended to choose some, according to your lifestyle, but it seems that there is no upper limit. It can also move to the bottom for Add personalized behavior.
You can also configure and activate and turn off the indications to record behaviors by touching the three points in the right corner and playing Reminders.
Navigate to the lifestyle registration tab during the day to register or edit behaviors.
