The Mandalorian and Grogu trailer
The Mandalorian and GroguThe first trailer hit the internet in September 2025. However, while it showed off a lot, including Sigourney Weaver’s character and Rotta the Hutt (more on them shortly), it didn’t tell us anything about the plot.
Things were no clearer after a new preview of The Mandalorian and Grogu was broadcast during this year’s Super Bowl. In fact, the 30-second TV spot sparked backlash from sections of the Star Wars fanbase, who simply wanted another extended look at the upcoming film.
Fortunately, Disney and Lucasfilm released The Mandalorian and GroguThe main preview on February 17. Take a look below:
Look
The confirmed cast of The Mandalorian and Grogu
Possible spoilers follow The Mandalorian and Grogu.
Here is the list of actors confirmed so far for the next Star Wars movie:
- Pedro Pascal as Din Djarin/The Mandalorian
- Grogu as himself
- Sigourney Weaver as Colonel Ward
- Steve Blum as Garazeb ‘Zeb’ Orrelios
- Jeremy Allen White as Rotta the Hutt
- Martin Scorsese as an anonymous merchant from Ardennia
As The MandalorianAs the main couple, it wouldn’t be a movie sequel to the original Disney+ show without Din Djarin and Grogu/Baby Yoda.
They will also be joined by at least one familiar face in this film, with Blum returning to voice the Lasat affectionately known as Zeb. After making his debut in the animated show. Star Wars: Rebels As a member of the Ghost crew, Zeb is now captain of The New Republic. You will probably take orders from Colonel Ward, also known as the previously mysterious character that Sigourney Weaver was cast to play in May 2024.
Weaver won’t be the only newcomer to the Star Wars franchise.
For starters, legendary filmmaker Martin Scorsese will have a voice-only cameo as the Ardennian merchant who Mando and Grogu visit to get information on some Hutts, aka sentient slug-like creatures known for becoming crime lords.
White, best known for playing Carmen Berzatto in the bear (also known as the multi-award-winning and critically acclaimed Hulu TV show), has been cast as one of those Hutts, and White has been hired to play Rotta, the muscular son of Jabba the Hutt. He’s one of three confirmed Hutts we’ll see, although it’s unclear who will voice the others. For now, Disney and Lucasfilm simply refer to them as Brother and Sister Hutt.
Additionally, no one knows who has been hired to play Bai, Clang, and Keeto, that is, the three Ancellans we see traveling with Grogu in Trailer #1. The same goes for Embo, a fearsome Hutt bounty hunter and bodyguard first seen during The Clone Wars. It was confirmed that Embo was part of the process in The Mandalorian and GroguThe official trailer.
Finally, Deadline has reported that Coyne will reprise his role as one of the unnamed Imperial Warlords we saw in The Mandalorian season 3 episode 7. He is a member of the Shadow Council who met, via Hologram, with Giancarlo Esposito’s Moff Gideon in the original Star Wars television series. Hopefully, we’ll find out his real name in the movie.
Mandalorian and Grogu story synopsis and speculation
The Mandalorian and GroguThe story of is largely under lock and key ahead of its release. In fact, Disney has only revealed one tagline for the film, which reads: “The evil Empire has fallen and Imperial warlords remain scattered across the galaxy. As the fledgling New Republic works to protect everything the Rebellion fought for, they have enlisted the help of legendary Mandalorian bounty hunter Din Djarin and his young apprentice Grogu.”
Still, trailers, especially the most recent one, have given some indication of what the story will entail. Possible spoilers follow immediately The Mandalorian and Groguso proceed at your own risk.
Judging by the first clips of Trailer #2, the eponymous duo will seek out Brother and Sister Hutt in order to extract information from them about the remains of the Galactic Empire. That way, they can track down anyone still loyal to Emperor Palpatine (who’s not dead yet, remember) and, in Mando’s own words, “eliminate all the bad guys” in The New Republic’s “deck of cards.”
For Colonel Ward, however, sending Din and Baby Yoda on this mission is “not about revenge,” it’s about “preventing another war from breaking out” if the Galactic Empire rises from the ashes to try to tyrannically praise him over the galaxy once again. Whether the titular couple agrees with that or not is up for debate.
Of course, our intrepid heroes’ plans won’t be executed without a few hiccups along the way. In fact, Trailer #2 reveals that it will cross their minds. With Din captured by the Hutts, Grogu pursued by Embo, and a myriad of criminals and monsters in pursuit, this could be the pair’s most dangerous quest yet.
Then there’s the elephant in the room about how The Mandalorian and Grogu could set the stage for the Star Wars crossover movie that Lucasfilm’s new co-CEO Dave Filoni is leading development.
One of many new Star Wars movies and Disney+ shows in development, the untitled ensemble film will see Din Djarin, Grogu, Ahsoka Tano and other Star Wars heroes team up to fight Grand Admiral Thrawn. He is the blue-skinned Big Bad with ambitions to remake the Galactic Empire in his own image, and a fan-favorite villain played by Lars Mikkelsen in season 1 of Star Wars: Ahsoka.
Considering that some imperial remains will appear in The Mandalorian and GroguShould we expect this movie to start sowing the seeds for that team-up movie? Or has it taken a backseat amid the leadership change at Lucasfilm? We’ll have to wait and see.
Is The Mandalorian season 4 still in development?
Despite the ensemble movie I mentioned, Lucasfilm and Disney would be foolish to end Mando and Baby Yoda’s story next. The Mandalorian and Grogu. The possibility of the couple returning to Disney+ (aka one of the best streaming services) for another season is not unreasonable.
Will there be a fourth season of The Mandalorian But get it? In January 2024, Deadline reported that The Mandalorian Season 4 was in development. More recently, Jon Favreau, co-creator of the Star Wars television series and director of its upcoming film sequel, said Empire magazine (according to Fiction Horizon): “We were planning to do a fourth season. In fact, I had written all that. I still have season 4 on my desk.”
In short, don’t expect Lucasfilm or its parent company to decide to kill off two of their most popular characters just yet.
