As the country continues to staggered under the in progress, the toll of rain -related incidents increased further on Sunday, with six more people losing their lives in the last 24 hours, since a new monzonic spell will tied the country from July 28 (today).
According to the latest report of the situation of the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), 22 people were injured in several incidents related to rain and flooding throughout the country on the last day.
The cumulative toll of the Monzón since June 26 is now 271 deaths and 655 injuries.
The report said that two deaths occurred in Punjab and four in Baluchistan in the last 24 hours due to ceiling collapses, drowning floods and replenishments caused by heavy rains.
Meanwhile, in Dera Ghazi Khan, the Indo River increased 430,000 CUSECs in the Taunsa Barge, causing floods in eight villages next to the River near Ghazi Ghat and flooding more than 20 settlements in Taunsa Sharif.
The rising waters have left residents dealing with access and safety problems.
To manage the crisis, the district administration has established more than 25 flood help camps in government school buildings in Taunsa and Kot Chutta Tehsils.
Meanwhile, the number of deaths of the flood in progress in Gilgit-Baltistán increased to 10 on Sunday, while the search and rescue teams combined the affected areas and transferred to the tourists stranded to safer places, the authorities confirmed.
According to Gilgit-Baltistan government spokesman, Faizullah Faraq, the number of deaths in Babusar has only reached seven. Two more deaths from Thore Valley were reported in Diamer District and another from Astore.
The body of an unidentified woman was also recovered from the Indo River in the Chilas Minar area. “The body could be that of one of the tourists swept the Babusar road,” Faraq added.
Fresh monzón spell
The Department of Meteorology of Pakistan (PMD) has predicted a new period of generalized rain, wind and thunderstorms from July 28, as the monzón currents continue to affect the high and central regions of the country. According to the PMD, these currents are expected to intensify in the next few days. In addition, it is anticipated that a new wave of the West will enter Pakistan on July 29.
From July 27 to 31, with intermittent gaps, the Rain Wind/Thundershowers accompanied by isolated heavy falls is probably in several districts of Azad Jammu and Kashmir.

The PMD has advised the relevant authorities and the public to remain alert, particularly in vulnerable areas prone to floods and landslides.
