The nation celebrates Pakistan’s day on Sunday with a renewed commitment to transform the country into an Islamic welfare state as planned by Quaid-E-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah.
The day marks the anniversary of Lahore resolution, approved on March 23, 1940, which laid the foundations of a separate homeland for the subcontinent Muslims.
The celebrations began with a greeting of 31 cannons in Islamabad and greetings of 21 cannons in provincial capitals. Special sentences were offered after Fajr for the progress and prosperity of the nation.
This year, the Pakistan Day parade was held in Aiwan-E-Sadr instead of its traditional place in Shakarprian Parade Ground.
President Asif Ali Zardari is the main guest, together with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, the Heads of Service and other dignitaries.
